  1. What is Kratom?

Kratom, scientifically named Mitragyna speciosa, is a tropical tree in the coffee family that is native to parts of Africa and Southeast Asia. It has been valued in traditional medicine since the 19th century, and today it is used for pain relief, depression, ADHD, anxiety, to self treat drug addiction and to ease drug withdrawal symptoms. Traditionally, kratom leaves were crushed and made into tea, or they were chewed for their euphoric effects. Today the plant is used to make kratom capsules, pills and powders.

Kratom contains over 40 compounds and more than 25 alkaloids. The main active alkaloids in kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which can have a range of stimulating and depressant effects. Kratom constituents have shown to possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity.

  1. How do I dose?

Starter dose is around 2-3gs. To treat anxiety, depression, increase energy and focus, small doses are required. For severe pain and opiate withdrawals starter dose is around 4gs. Your dose is dependant on how you react to certain strains, the ailment you wish to treat, and your natural tolerance.

  1. What are the effects of Kratom?

Kratom has a wide range of effects and benefits, owing to the numerous strains and vein varieties available. Generally speaking Red vein is best for severe and/or chronic pain, to treat opiate withdrawals, it’s an anti inflammatory, anti anxiety, can be used as a sleep aid and lifts depression. Red vein effects can be energetic in low doses and sedating is higher doses. Green and White vein Kratom is more stimulating, and is therefore better for depression, fatigue, focus, concentration, energy enhancement, weight loss, sports endurance and ADHD. The Green vein varieties hold the benefit of both Red and White veined Kratom. Gold or Yellow veined Kratom is the most sedating, great for migraines, fibromyalgia, and as a sedative or sleep aid.

  1. Can you overdose on Kratom?

You cannot overdose on Kratom as it doesn’t cause respiratory failure.

  1. Is Kratom dangerous?

Kratom can be dangerous when combined with opiates, Benzodiazepines and mood stabilizers.

  1. Is Kratom addictive?

It is possible for long term and heavy users to become addicted. It is advised to take breaks of weeks and/or months between regular use. It does take a lot longer than other schedule drugs to build a tolerance and become addicted to it.

  1. What are the side effects of Kratom

Premium quality Kratom has little to no negative side effects, you can become dehydrated if you do not drink enough water.

  1. What’s better; powder, capsules?
    Powdered Kratom works faster and is more effective, thus smaller doses are needed. Some people can’t handle the bitterness and therefore prefer capsules.
  2.  Will Kratom make you high?

Users report that it causes a sense of euphoria, it releases dopamine in the brain which results in feelings of happiness and joy.  In higher doses it acts as a sedative.

  1. How long does it take to feel the effects of Kratom?
    Around 15-25 minutes when using the powder swallowed with some liquid. Around  45 min when taken as capsules. Effects can last from 3-6 hours.
  2. How many Kratom strains are there?
    There are many strains of Kratom but a handful of popularly used ones. The colour is to indicate the colour of the vein in the leaf  ie; Green, Red and White. While the other name refers to the area it is grown in ie: Indo = Indonesia, Malay = Malaysia, Bali = Bali, Maeng Da is a modified version of Thai Kratom and Borneo and Indo are from Indonesia. Vendors sometimes create their own names, which has added confusion, but there are main ones which are well documented and used regularly.
